Saturday Update
During the week we received conflicting information about whether the road would be plowed and the mountain opened for this weekend. Kern County roads came through and got the road plowed. Not just plowed but really cleared of snow. With melt and refreeze there are always icy spots, so chains and careful driving are the rule, but for the most part the road is clear and dry.
The team’s morning challenge was to get out base dug out and removing snow plow berms can be hard work. But a few unscheduled patrollers came up to help make it pretty short work.
Today we had another visit: A Ventura County search and rescue team from Fillmore came up for some training. And they utilized a Ventura County helicopter to ferry their team to Sawmill Mountain.
Next Up?
Looking ahead, the National Weather Service is predicting snow on most days next week with a total accumulation between 10 and 20 inches. With the great base provided by the last series of storms we should have some really good skiing and snowshoeing.
